Kansas State Sales Tax

Kansas imposes a 6.5% percent state retailers’ sales tax, plus applicable local taxes on the:

  • Retail sale, rental or lease of tangible personal property;
  • Labor services to install, apply, repair, service, alter, or maintain tangible personal property, and
  • Admissions to entertainment, amusement, or recreation places in Kansas.

Cities and counties in Kansas may also levy a local sales tax. Each retailer reports and remits the total of the state and local retailers’ sales tax collected to the Department of Revenue.

Sedgwick County Taxes

Sales Tax

Sedgwick County imposes a Countywide Retailers' Sales Tax in the amount of 1%, for a total sales tax of 7.5% (federal plus county taxes). 

Property Tax

The Business Personal Property Division appraises all business’ tangible personal property, also known as commercial and industrial machinery and equipment. Article 11, Section 1 of the Kansas Constitution establishes that these assets are assessed at 25 percent of their appraised value.
